This guy, Mike Stimpson, has done some really amazing work with a Lego set and his Nikon D200!
Remember the famous photograph of the flag planting at Iwo Jima?
Well, Mike has recreated this scene, using Legos, as follows:
And, like a good photographer, who always likes to teach others as he excels, he has also posted a quick explanation of how he set this up to take such a great image:
You’ll definitely want to visit his Flickr photostream and see the many other great photographs he has created, along with the very interesting setup shots (which include notes and annotations to describe what’s what in the shot).
I went outside, tonight, to take a couple pictures of the unusually blue sky we had as dusk was settling in. While I was in the front yard, I figured I’d shoot a couple frames of the wildflowers growing out of control around our mailbox…
Now, I’m definitely no flower expert, and didn’t have any clue as to the identity of this particular flower:

So, I did what any photo-geek would do, I pulled up Google in my web browser and did an image search for blue flowers! I ended up finding some pictures that looked similar to this one, and it turns out it’s the Wild Iris, also called Blue Flag.

What I found particularly interesting, apart from the fact that its roots are “extremely poisonous,” is that this flower is the original fleur-de-lis from which we get the cool French symbol with the same name. Apparently, this was the official flower of the court of King Louis VII.
I guess you learn something new every day, huh?

Here’s a good post I found about how to introduce your child to the world of photography…
Introducing Your Little One to Photography
Introducing your children to photography, whether they have extra needs or not, is a great way to encourage creativity and decision-making and can give you a new activity to share with your whole family. But how do you go about introducing children to the camera? Here are a few ideas to get you started (these tips are aimed for children from about 3 to 8 years old):

There is a section of Stanford Road which has been closed for years, due to disrepair (and, as the story goes, because it crosses the border of a couple cities, neither city wanted to pay to fix it, so it ended up becoming so dangerous they had to close it). This closed section has been turned into a nature trail, and leads to a beautiful waterfall called Brandywine Falls.
A couple weekends ago, we spent the afternoon hiking around this area, taking photographs. Through the magic of Animoto.com, I have produced a short video for your enjoyment.
If you recognize these planets, you’re probably familiar with my neck of the woods.
This is a screen capture from a cool way to visualize the tags on Flickr called Tag Galaxy. You can zoom in on a planet to view the photos with the tags, too.
And, of course, you can zoom in to a single photo:
If you like browsing Flickr, this is a fun way to do it!
