Objective
My primary objective is to find a position where I can make a noticeable difference within an organization that I can become passionate about.
Work History
National City Corporation
Enterprise Architect
5/2007 – Present
- In early 2007, I learned that a new Enterprise Architecture Team was being formed, and my current manager recommended that I apply for a position on the team. In addition to the general duties of working with my team to help define and establish architectural governance, my primary focus is really on working with all of the portfolios’ application architecture and development teams to help improve their productivity.
- In this role, I have been spending a lot of time with developers and application architects, listening to their questions and complaints, and helping them find solutions. Our goal is to remove as many distractions, as possible, that prevent our development teams from focusing on the job of building great software, rather than all of the miscellaneous tasks that really have little to do with development.
- Additionally, I have begun several initiatives intended to encourage more collaboration and a sense of community across the various portfolios, such as producing “lunch & learn” presentations, publishing a newsletter, and setting up online “developer centers” where programmers can collaborate with others having similar interests (this is inspired by the Channel 9 site that Microsoft offers).
Application Architect
5/2006 – 5/2007
- My responsibility as an application architect was to provide architectural oversight to all of the web development projects for the retail banking line of business. I was responsible for our Online Banking application, the public bank website (www.nationalcity.com), and quite a few smaller sub-sites that are accessible by the public.
- I also acted as a liaison between individual projects and the enterprise Architecture Review Board, to present the project designs to a board of architects from around the company.
Bennett Adelson Consulting
Assigned to National City Corporation
Developer Team Lead
8/2005 – 5/2006
- I was the team lead for the “Services Team” on a high profile project, building the business logic layer of a service-oriented application.
- This business logic layer was implemented using a custom rules engine, that we built from scratch, which followed the Chain of Responsibility design pattern. The rules were defined in XML files, which we used with CodeSmith to generate C# and compiled to assemblies which were then loaded by the rules engine for execution.
- The web services interface was built to WS-Security Basic Profile 1.0 specifications, and supported interoperability from a variety of consumers, including .NET, J2EE, and COM applications.
- At the conclusion of this project, I was offered a full-time job with the bank, to fill a new application architect position.
Microsoft Corporation

msevents.microsoft.com). - I regularly spoke at local user groups.
CIBER, Inc.

5/2001 – 8/2004
- At the Harrisburg Operations Center, I was hired as a development team leader for Microsoft platform projects. My teams offered

Ajilon, Inc.
Assigned to Merrill Lynch & Co.

9/2000 – 5/2001

Microsoft Corporation
Application Development Consultant
4/1999 – 9/2000
- My specialties were:
- SQL Server
- Visual Basic
- e-Commerce
- I delivered presentations for local MSDN and TechNet events, as well as “brown bag” sessions at various customer locations.
- Winn-Dixie Supermarkets, Inc.
I spent several weeks working alongside the web development team at Winn-Dixie, while I prepared a formal proposal for reorganizing their personnel to best take advantage of the Microsoft Solutions Framework. - I also assisted their webmaster in designing the overall architecture for an XML-driven, content-oriented portal system for their intranet.
- Hard Rock Cafe
I worked on a team of Microsoft consultants who were asked to rapidly build a new generation of their public website, using the newly released Windows 2000 Advanced Server and COM+ technologies. - Lockheed-Martin
I designed and implemented a “web service” (this was prior to the introduction of web service toolkits) for organizing and distributing the thousands of PowerPoint presentations used across their Florida facilities. - Intermedia Communications
What began as a short, one-week engagement to provide technical guidance for some scalability issues they were having, evolved into a four-month assignment as an interim manager for their entire database development team, while their regular manager was assigned to a Y2K “swat team.” - Office Depot
I provided some technical assistance to their web development team in troubleshooting problems they were having with their public e-commerce site.
Earlier Experience
I will be happy to provide details of earlier experiences, upon request. Some of the companies I worked for, include:
- Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc.
- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida
- Florida Community College of Jacksonville
- Walt Disney World Attractions
- ALLTEL Mortgage Division
- Great Lakes Chemical Corporation
Education
I have never received an accredited college degree, though I have taken a few courses, here and there.
Early in my career, I made the deliberate decision to obtain my education outside of the collegiate system, preferring to learn directly from experts in the field.
As you can see, throughout my career, I have jumped at opportunities to teach wherever possible, as I have found that to be one of the most effective ways to learn!
